Superposition is about uncertainty, time and bodies. Niall Firth’s debut introduces us to a poet who tells things like they are – or might be. Its vivid language invites us to examine the world anew while its characters play with spacetime or exist at the extremes of reality. It is a pamphlet that explores concepts that may be strange, but are also rooted in experiences and emotions that are human and universal.

Niall Firth is a journalist who lives in London. His work has previously appeared in The Rialto, Butcher’s Dog, And Other Poems, The Interpreter’s House and Under the Radar, among others. He was part of the Toast mentoring scheme in 2017.

Superposition introduces us to a poet who uses precise language, controlled energy, and daring verve to capture a moment, a memory, a feeling. Whether in city, nature or scientific theory, Firth captures what he sees with a playfulness that resolves his restless mind and eyes into insight and, rarer still, a smile. - Rishi Dastidar

Urban and whip-smart, these poems chime clear and smooth ‘as a sucked ice cube’. The characters who populate Niall Firth’s work are bold and startling, from the insouciant narrator who ‘likes to fuck about’ with the cosmos to the boy forced to eat a raw cow’s heart. These are time-travelling, heartfelt poems. - Helen Mort
