Almost Kid
Almost Kid
This is a startling debut from a poet with a voice of distinctive realism that masterfully captures the harsh realities of her world. The poems engulf the reader with an astonishing range of emotion and image. A poet with something real to convey.
V.A. Sola Smith lives in Lancaster where she works as a freelance copywriter. She completed a Contemporary Prose Fiction MA at Kingston University, graduating with Distinction in 2010. She has had flash fiction featured in Little Episodes’ anthology Brainstorms and her poems have been published in Lung Jazz: Young British Poets for Oxfam and Sculpted: an Anthology of the North West.
V.A. Sola Smith’s poems are dark, juicy and just the right amount of wicked. With wrong-child wit, Almost Kid unpicks the appeal of the uncanny, unhealthy, the ‘not quite pretty… but tough, tough, tough.’ What I felt most was a sense of the precarious – poems knocked down with a feather, and leaving the loveliest mess behind. – A.K.
