with humour and an eye for detailVincent Keaveny, Lord Mayor

From the author of A.E. Housman: Finding A Path To Flourish comes a lively, amusing, insightful and possibly unique account of what it is like to be a Master of an ancient livery company. The meetings with the great and the good , the ceremony in gilded halls, themselves the physical manifestation of centuries of history, the charitable giving, the modern relevance and crucial role liveries still play in defining the meaning and in lubricating the machinery of the City of London.

Peter Waine is a past Master of the Worshipful Company of Gardeners, a former chairman of CPRE, of the National Fruit Collection( at Brogdale), and of the Tree Council. He has been on the boards of public and private companies in addition to being a former visiting professor at Warwick and Bayes Business Schools. A former member of the International Cricket Council and a trustee of both the Royal Opera House and of The Gardens Trust. Waine is author or co- author of two business books, a business novel, a collection of poetry, two books on the countryside and a biography of A.E Housman. He is chairman of the Housman Society. He is a former judge for the Wainwright Literary Prize and for the Contrarian Prize. He stood for Parliament.

Those who know Peter will know that he is a great raconteur with a gift for comedy and these qualities are evident in the book. There are lots of humorous anecdotes, and wry asides, often self-deprecatory. - The Spade
