Our Black Spring Crime imprint is delighted to announce the winner for our Crime Prize 2023!
In what was an incredible shortlist, it proved to be very difficult to choose a winner. First, we'd like to congratulate all the authors who submitted and those who made the shortlist - we hope you continue to write great work and we'd love to see you again.
Secondly, we are so pleased to see how different all the novels we received were - it really encapsulates how big a tent the genre of crime fiction is. From psychological thrillers to police procedurals to dystopian noir... there was something for every reader here.
Now, before we get to the winner, we'd like to say how close the result was and therefore we want to highly commend the following novel, which came incredibly close to taking the prize...

This is a psychological thriller unlike anything you've read before. A protagonist, whose voice buries itself into your subconscious and refuses to leave. Emotional, darkly propulsive plot, and a unique storytelling format, means this is a book that will be talked about for a long, long time.
May is our winner and will see her novel published as part of the Black Spring Crime Series in 2024 and is also awarded £1,000!
