This year, the winner will receive a £1,000 award and publication of their winning novel through our newly created imprint Black Spring Crime.
The prize will be judged by international bestselling author Luca Veste, our new Consultant Crime Editor, who will read every entry into the competition. He says “I couldn’t be more excited to read the entries to the 2023 Crime Prize! I absolutely adore the crime and mystery genre. From police procedurals to psychological thrillers, the genre has the ability to tell stories in many imaginative and interesting ways. So, whether it’s something in the vein of a Mark Billingham, a Val McDermid, a CL Taylor, a Gillian Flynn, or Linwood Barclay, Lee Child . . . I can’t wait to read it!”
The winner will be published through Black Spring’s new specialized crime imprint Black Spring Crime – a list that will be led by Zephaniah Sole’s incredible debut novel A Crime in the Land of 7,000 Islands, which will be published in June 2023 in paperback and eBook. More titles from previous winners of the Black Spring Crime Prize – Rob McClure, Clare Grant – will follow in the months ahead, alongside other acquisitions curated and selected by our new consultant crime editor Luca Veste.
