POEMS FOR UKRAINE - A FUNDRAISER ANTHOLOGY TO BENEFIT REFUGEES

The war against Ukraine is a crime against humanity, and a terrible, terrifying moment in our history. We stand with the refugees fleeing and welcome them. This project hopes to to help in a small way.

THIS IS A FUNDRAISING PROJECT TO DIRECT SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES COMING TO THE UK, BY RAISING MONEY FOR A REFUGEE CHARITY AND TO COVER COSTS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF AN ANTHOLOGY, WHICH ITSELF WILL SEE ALL SALES PROFITS GOING TO THE CHARITY. BY DEFINITION IT RELIES ON DONATIONS. ALL MONEY RAISED IS AIMED TO GENERATE SUPPORT FOR OUR SELECTED CHARITY.

We will transparently post the use of all funds on our blog when the book is completed. As a very small indie press, we thank you for your support; we could not take this sort of large project on at this time, without your support. We understand not everyone is comfortable supporting this sort of fundraiser, and if so, we respect your decision not to donate.

Each submission is £10, and can include up to three poems. We feel it is ethical to seek to raise money for this cause, since we know our company will not benefit from this anthology financially, and the attention it may help raise for this charity is a definite moral good.  In the past, our press has found that if we do not charge for these submissions, we receive many nuisance and hoax submissions, and given the disinformation campaign surrounding this war, we also needed to limit submissions sent only to fill up our time, or otherwise represent threatening, frightening, and pro-war views. Our press will also be donating many hours of time to market and support this book in many ways.

60% of the submission will go to The Sanctuary Foundation to support refugees coming into UK, 40% to cover the production costs of the anthology (including judging, editing, typesetting, proofreading and printing) until amount exceeds need and then this will also go to the charity; sales profits will go to charity also. By fundraising as we seek submissions, we guarantee that money is automatically raised for every poem submitted, to go to assist Ukrainian refugees. Not every poem submitted will necessarily be selected, but every submission does good, by supporting the project and the foundation helping refugees.

The publisher and its associates will not benefit from the sales of the book, as all sales profits will go to the designated organisation. The aim is to raise money quickly, and to also create a powerful and inspiring book of poems at this major historic and tragic moment in human history. People of all cultures and nations welcome to submit; poems please in English for this edition. Poems will be read and selected by the editorial team at BSPG, such as Cate, Memory, and Amira. The anthology does not endorse war or violence, and is focused on assisting persons displaced through no fault of their own by the war. Each poet included will receive a free copy of the anthology and will be able to purchase additional copies at a discount.

BSPG has a long tradition of publishing books supporting and about refugees and welcoming immigrants, and also refugees, to the UK. Its director is known for having produced several anti-war anthologies, including 100 Poets Against The War (Salt/ Nthposition).
