MONTREAL POETRY LEGEND IAN FERRIER HAS DIED

Terrible sad news - the exceptionally gifted poet, performer, broadcaster, songwriter, and organiser/emcee, Ian Ferrier has died. Ferrier's bio is linked here.

He had a profound effect, all for the good, on the Canadian spoken word and performance poetry "scene" for decades, and helped to pioneer and shape the art form, especially with his own practice and performances, but also by encouraging many others, through his recording label, and radio broadcasts and numerous events across decades.

A remarkable presence on the Montreal, Quebec and Canadian stages, he also travelled widely and was known internationally. A gentle bear of a man physically, he always exuded empathy and decency, and was dedicated to creative exploration in words and music to the end. A true giant of poetry, and his death is a great loss. RIP.

Condolences for his family. I knew him for many years. He was always perfectly himself. Blessings, and I wish you healing. Love.

Oh man. He was as you say. Hard to imagine him gone.
