Judith died earlier in 2025 and we are announcing it now, with deep condolences to her family and friends, after being informed. We at Black Spring are deeply saddened by her passing, as we worked closely with Judith on her brilliant book of short stories, Gravity. She was very thoughtful, kind, and inspiring. She was a very generous person, who believed deeply in literature, and independent publishing's role in the world.
Judith Serin's collection of poetry, Hiding in the World, was published by Diane di Prima's Eidolon Editions, and her Days Without (Sky): A Poem Tarot, seventy-eight short prose poems in the form of a tarot deck with illustration and book art design by Nikki Thompson, was published by Deconstructed Artichoke Press.
She wrote fiction and creative nonfiction as well as poetry, and her work appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. She taught literature and writing at California College of the Arts for many years.
Her book Family Stories is forthcoming from BSPG in 2026.
