Our press is deeply saddened to learn that Jami Cassady (Ratto) has died very recently.
She was the middle child of Neal and Carolyn Cassady, born in 1950. As such, she grew up with a front row seat to the 60s West coast counter-culture, as her father was close friends with Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, and Ginsberg, among many other Beats, hippies and bohemians.
Jami and the Cassady estate worked with me and The Black Spring Press Group on the major Joan Anderson Letter book; and we also published her mother's classic Off The Road memoir of the Beat Era from a woman's perspective.
RIP, Jami.
Condolences to all her family, friends, and those who knew and loved her, especially her husband.
