Eyewear poet Jemma Borg Wins £5,000 Ginkgo Prize for Ecopoetry
Evolutionary geneticist and poet Jemma Borg has won the 2018 Ginkgo Prize for Ecopoetry for her poem ‘Unripe’, which asks “How to be a tree without rain? How to climb a mountain if a mountain isn’t there?”
The £5,000 prize, judged by poet Mimi Khalvati and Guardian gardening columnist Alys Fowler, aims to highlight the role poetry can play in raising awareness of the ecological imperatives of our time.
The announcement at Poetry in Aldeburgh festival today comes just weeks after a landmark UN report on climate change warned we have only 12 years to limit climate catastrophe.
