Eyewear's turning 6 this week, and we'd like to invite you to celebrate with us at a special launch this Sunday, 13th May at the Brixton Windmill.
Eyewear Publishing Ltd. was formally incorporated six years ago. It was a tough literary market back in 2012 - and we're not just saying that. The poetry market shrunk by almost a fifth that year. Fast forward six years and poetry is booming, with over a million books sales per year, and an overall 66% increase on those grim 2012 figures. During that time, we published some of the best established and emerging talent in poetry, non-fiction and literary fiction. Those books have won major awards for poetry and criticism, alongside Forward Prize shortlists and PBS recommendations.
They've been endorsed by major cultural and literary figures like Kaveh Akbar, Stephen Fry, Louis Theroux and Salman Rushdie. We've had indie bestsellers in the States and published collections by legendary songwriters. We've worked with ambassadors, nuclear physicists and data-scientists
Most of all, we've helped launch a generation of amazing new authors, and brought hundreds of brilliant, unique books into the world. So our next launch is going to double as a celebration of everything we've done over the years. Even if you don't know the authors being launched, or haven't been to one of our events in a while, we'd love you to show up and show your support for the press.
Launching: The Best New British and Irish Poets 2018
Along with pamphlets by James Coghill and Christian Wethered
This year's anthology gathers 50 of the brightest emerging talents in Britain and Ireland today. Entries were judged by multi-award winning poet Maggie Smith (who you might know from her viral poem "Good Bones"). We'll be celebrating these authors - as well as everyone else we've published over the years - at the world-famous Brixton venue The Windmill for live poetry readings from anthology poets and guest readers (inc. Oliver Jones), with drinks available at the bar.
