Black Spring Press are making a move to take several of their key titles to screen by partnering with global production and rights company Raydar Media.
The deal agreed between The Black Spring Press Group and Alison Rayson, Founder of Raydar Media will see them collaborate initially on the development of Clare Grant’s acclaimed Victorian thriller Winter of Shadows. Set in York the gripping story is the first in an intended series of mysteries involving the character “Ada Fawkes” that Raydar want to develop for the screen and that place the female crime scene photographer / amateur sleuth at the centre of a chilling series of murders and a race against time to solve them before a final murder is committed on Twelfth Night.
Luca Veste crime editor of BSPG commented “we are thrilled to be working with Raydar on taking the steps towards seeing adaptations of our books to screen. We were incredibly impressed by Raydar’s passion for and knowledge of the books on the Black Spring list. We have a deep backlist of mysteries, thrillers, and other fantastic stories, and we think Raydar will bring them to screens wonderfully. This is an exciting development for our press and after our collaboration with Lee Child in Crimebits, and its upcoming sequel with Val McDermid, shows that for a small press, we can really punch above our weight”.
Alison Rayson of Raydar Media commented “Ada Fawkes has all the hallmarks of a relatable modern day thriller with the difference and uniqueness of being set against the stunning backdrop of Victorian York's ancient streets .. coming from York ourselves we fell in love with not only the setting of the book but also with Clare Grants, brilliant and very modern lead character Ada. The addictiveness of Clare’s twisty plot about a serial killer stalking the ancient city in the lead into Christmas and Twelfth Night has a truly jaw dropping ending and we believe will make for must watch TV”.
Raydar and Black spring press also plan to collaborate on several other key titles in the Black Spring Press stable as well, including the children’s mystery TAILs – The Animal Investigators of London, and a Scottish crime thriller, set in Washington DC amid recent political madness, The Scotsman.
