10am, the doorbell rang. Veronica found 2 officers on her doorstep. “Morning Mrs Kenny. Can we confirm it is Mrs Kenny?” “Yes, yes it is. How can I help you?” “We believe you were a witness to an incident in the early hours of this morning. And we’d like to ask you a few questions. Can we come in?” Veronica cast her mind back, feeling a prickle on her neck and a cold flush her body. “Anyone else at home?” asked the officers as they walked through the hallway. “No” replied Veronica, thinking it best not to elaborate. Both the officers noticed the photography covering the walls – all of the same thing – a small greyish bird with a long thin tail and a thin pointed bill.
